I just got back from a very fine 49 minute 6 mile run… I started out pretty slow (8:34), but picked it up for the next five miles (7:57-8:24). I really wanted to kick that last mile on the way in and finish strong to keep my overall pace below 8:15’s. I finished with a 7:47 last mile, which is pretty good for me, but what really rocked was that I ran my fastest recorded pace ever for a bit of that last mile. For 20 or 30 seconds on two occasions in that last mile I hit a 4:40 minute mile pace! This is faster than I’ve ever run by almost a minute a mile – ever – on a recorded run.
This, of course, doesn’t include things like running bases in baseball or softball – call them occasional sprints. As far as distance running goes though, that’s as fast as I’ve ever run, and it was at the end of an already good run.
To celebrate I’ll be going for a nice little 5 mile fat tire ride with Mrs. BgddyJim in a short while to loosen up my legs. I’ve also got a 14 mile trail ride on the schedule for tomorrow… The weather is supposed to be perfect – sunny and 64. For the middle of November it just doesn’t get any better than that.
I’ve said it before, I might as well say it again, so much for rest.
