I’m back from my first ride/run/ride brick of the new year and I miss my road bike already! A ride that should take about 36-38 minutes takes 46 minutes on the mountain bike – and the breeze, wow! I can’t ever remember working that hard on that ride. That said, I am glad I left the road bike at the office, there was way too much gravel left on the road from winter. The mountain bike, as much as it pains me to say it, was the right bike for the job.
The ride down was cold but satisfying (if slow, wind In the face). For the run, my buddy Dennis talked me into going 5 miles instead of a 5k and English Pete went with with the idea to take it pretty easy. We ended up with a 9:15 pace – quite slow for Pete and I but we were able to have a great talk through the whole run. After a bite of stew for lunch, I hit the road. With the wind at my back I kept an easy 16 mph average.
It’s so nice to get a really nice endorphin laced workout in after all of that spinning in the office. After 29-1/2 miles, it’s time for a nice hot shower and a nap. The crowd at the running club today was huge! It’s been a while since I saw that many smiles – everyone was ecstatic with the temps above freezing and the sun shining. It’s good to be back.
