On vacation, we’re staying in a house that has dish service rather than cable. Unfortunately the only channel that happens to be carrying the Tour is a subscription channel on the dish and we don’t get it. Having not seen any coverage since we left, I was missing it terribly. I tried Googling ‘TdF live streaming’ and much to my surprise, there’s an app for that. It cost me ten bucks but I’ve been able to watch both stages since I bought it and I’m getting my fix in… Awesome!

Watching the 100th running of the Tour de France on my phone: Priceless!

I have been very disappointed with the total lack if possibilities to watch the Tour without paying some exorbitant fee. Everywhere I go to watch any portuon of the event longer than a 30 second snippit wants me to pay.

I find it a bit ironic. A governing body that wants to portray itself as purely about the love of the sport wants me to pay and pay again to watch its premiere event.

You do have a point there, I suppose… Comcast (cable) has the channel for free and I got to watch it daily. Down here in Georgia it’s a pay channel on Dish. Either way, ten bucks to watch it on my phone is worth it.

Yeah… We don’t have cable (which isn’t free either), and the cable channel that is covering it won’t allow you to see it online without paying…again! (I watched the entire Stanley Cup Playoffs online from them at no additional charge)

To each his own. I’m a capitalist, so make whatever money they can and the market will allow. But the altruistic posture toward the riders is a bit hollow.

Regardless, truly a great and historic event that drops my jaw every time I do see it…well, snippits of it anyway. haha!
