Yesterday was to be the last day of the longest vacation of my adult life, going back 28 years to when I was just 15 – two weeks and a few days (I haven’t had more than a week off at a time for more than a decade). Humorously enough, we didn’t even go anywhere… Just stayed home and had a blast as a family.
I’ve been “off” since before Christmas – now I use the term “off” loosely…it just means I haven’t gone into the office. I’ve still gotten a lot of work done. Such is the life.
I’ve taken the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day off for almost a decade now, but I’ve never been able to stay still long enough to be off this long. This was a special occasion though. I’ve been struggling with motivation lately and I needed badly a bit of reinvigoration, to refocus…
I was ready to go back on Thursday but I made myself stay home so I would really want it… I’m there. I’m ready, recharged – ready to take on my industry!
Then THIS:
24 hours earlier my wife’s van was completely cleaned off, I took the kids out to lunch in it.
I shoveled the driveway twice and my wife did it once yesterday. School was cancelled before 7 yesterday evening. I took the Christmas tree to the fire pit and the snow topped out just under my kneecap. It’s deep baby, I’m a six footer and at 9:00 it was still coming down… This is the worst snow storm we’ve had in more than a decade so I’m home for one more day so they can get the roads cleared.
Thank God for one last, last Hoorah!
UPDATE: Flint, just fifteen miles from my home, recorded 16.2 inches – the third highest single day amount in history. Yup, we got hammered.
No snow but freakin’ cold in Georgia!
I saw that last night (I keep Tiger, Ga in my weather app)! Now take 60 degrees off of that and you get our wind chill! Woohoo!
I haven’t had a full day of work since December 12 (due to being sick and then on winter break). Aside from summer breaks, I never have that long of a break during the school year, so I too am ready to get back to work, but I don’t think there is a school in the state of Iowa that has school today. Not due to snow, but due to the -40 to -60 degree windchill temperatures. It is VERY cold here!! With that said, I’m off to the gym to swim and strength train. I might as well get a good workout in while I have another day of vacation. 🙂
I got my workout shoveling snow! Upper body, core, legs… The whole nine yards – and it’s coming down again. They’re calling for -30 here. Fun, fun. Digging forts in the snow banks with the kids after breakfast. 😉
Digging forts sounds like a FUN workout!! Enjoy your afternoon!!
Wife and kids went out – sadly it’s too cold for fort digging. They only lasted about 20 minutes.
Safety is more important on such a cold day!!
We had at least a foot of snow dumped on St. Louis yesterday! No school here either…
Wow, St, Louis?! That’s awesome! Good luck digging out.
No snow here in Eastern UK and temp in double figures (°C) but we’re gradually submerging due to rain & storms. Would rather have that than snow though-my body I nearly ready to ride again and lets just say that my boys are READY to go back to school…
Are they ready or are you ready for them to go back? Heard about your rain – stay dry – or afloat!
They’re definitely ready to go back, I was last week!
Our kids’ school canceled 1;30 p.m. yesterday. We’re all going stir crazy here, but not wanting to go outside and attempt any more shoveling right now with the temp at 13-below, last I saw….
Good grief — no sooner did I finish typing that than my husband said they just called off school for tomorrow already!
Holy smokes! One way or another I’m going to the office tomorrow – payroll day. It’ll be interesting to see if they cancel it here too… Enjoy the days off!
-7 right now – windchill -32. . .working from home!
Holy smokes! 5 and -17 for us though we’ll be catching up shortly I’m sure. Ugh.
I went out to make sure my wife’s car would start – never felt that kind of piercing cold before.
Yup, it hurts brother. We usually only get something like this in the first two weeks of February. I can’t even imagine another seventeen degrees colder.
Come to think of it… We might actually be getting weather nasty enough to sideline the All Seasons Cyclist for a minute!
Enjoy it while you can. Imagine how you would wish for it come the heat of August! I do miss the snow but there is a limit to how much of a good thing is too much!
Hope the snow forts worked out well. I know in that cold of temps the construction doesn’t go so well. 🙂
I LOVE the heat of August! 😉
