The winter fur is in the garbage bin, the guns shaved clean. Leg warmers, gloves, toe covers, arm warmers, jacket, shades and brain bucket – check.
Tires are pumped, bike is lubed and ready.
Spring is here. ‘Bout time.
Time to fix my head in three… Two… One.
…That is ssssoooooooooo much better. Had to fight the urge to try to be in end of April form today but I rode well. I’d give the stats but I didn’t record them, I have no clue. 25.5 miles in: whatever it took – but it felt GOOD. Happy Friday.
One of my best blogging friends asked once, if a mile is ridden but not tracked by Strava, was it actually ridden?
Well, I’ve been unplugged for a couple of weeks now and I’m usually quite okay with it – usually. Every once in a while I want to go back, to be able to see my total mileage creep up (currently at 13,311) or to see my overall calories burned number bump (currently 704,338 or 201 pound’s worth). It really surprises me how much motivation those numbers provide when I need a little bump. I’ve never been able to be “on” and positive all of the time and for the past few years and I’ve used those numbers to pull me out of minor little funks, almost without realizing it. It took going without to finally see it for what it is.
There is an up-side though: Those bumps are mainly needed throughout the winter and, ladies and gentlemen, to quote one of my favorite comedies, “We’re havin’ a heat wave, a tropical heat wave”… That’s right, we’re supposed to hit our average temperature for the first time in what’s gotta be four or five months. Forty whole degrees (F), with sunshine. Well, with two feet of snow still on the ground and a wind-chill yesterday morning of -11 (F) I’m not exactly doing cartwheels, but I’ll be able to take one of my bikes out today and it’s going to be for a decent amount of time. The only question was which one. The temptation would lean towards the Venge, simply because I haven’t been able to ride it since early November. With all of the salt still on the roads and with the insane amount of potholes, combined with what will be melting snow, that simply isn’t going to happen. So that leaves the Cannondale as the best bet I think – funny thing, that. Anyway, I keep a couple of my bikes at the office so I packed up the C’dale and brought her home yesterday.
Here we go ladies and gentlemen, let the fun begin! I’ll be able to ride today, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday according to the weather report – we’ll almost be up to 50 (F) on Tuesday!
Man, it’s about flippin’ time!
