The Last Ride of 2015…

Sadly, it was on the trainer.  My buddy Mike had already slogged it out on the indoor torture machine, my buddy Brad was set to ride with us but forgot he had a birthday party he had to go to so he had to bow out at the last minute.  That gave my wife the out to ask for the trainers and I complied. It was really cold anyway…

With my Trek in the shop getting her new paint job that means I’m on the Cannondale (which is considerably more comfortable on a trainer, she’s a stiff ride on the road)…

Oops, I started this post yesterday, when we had a five percent chance of snow for the next 24 hours.   I was originally going to write about how awesome my friends are because we’d planned out a group ride with all of the boys and girls for today.  I was going to write about starting the year out right and about how grateful I am to have the friends I do… Turned out it was a little better than five.  Like closer to 100%.  In fact, it’s snowing right now so I’m going to check out the dirt roads – if they’re in decent shape we’re going to keep the rather large group we ended up with and ride the dirt roads.

Either way, the last ride of 2015 was better than polishing the leather couch with my butt.  My wife and I watched the new Mission Impossible flick while we turned the cranks and had a good time.  My only goal for 2015 was to end up with 10,000 km (and that was a loose goal at that because I can’t predict how much time work will allow and keeping my family fed and sheltered is a lot more important than hitting a cycling/fitness goal).  I ended up with 7,620 miles, absolutely decimating my goal.  Going by Endomondo’s numbers that’s worth 428,114 calories burned.  Put another way, that’s about 112 pounds.  In a year.  Just a thought.

In any event, I checked the roads and we’re heading out for the first ride of the year.  In the snow.  As my buddy Chuck put it:  “You can’t have a perfect year if you miss the first day”.

UPDATE:  Spoke too soon, they’re dropping like flies in the freezing temps.  I may end up on the trainer today…

LOL!
