My wife and I are sitting in the stands watching our daughters swim practice and The Verve’s Bittersweet Symphony comes on over the loud speaker.

My mood instantly brightens.

This is my alarm every morning.  Sometimes I wait a minute to close it, just so I can hear a little more.  I’m almost always already awake when it goes off.

It’s the perfect, “I’m gonna make this day my bitch” way to start my day.  But in a good way.  Can’t explain it, the song just hits the right chord with me.  Perhaps it’s that the song isn’t your typical scream, bang on the drums and make that guitar screech song.  Don’t get me wrong, I love me some Rob Zombie, Korn and Drowning Pool.  Maybe it’s my background in music.  I haven’t played or held a microphone in decades but I’ve never lost appreciation for a good tune.

Anyway, just feelin’ the power and thought I’d pass it along.

Thanks for the inspiration. Great video to go with the song.

This IS a great song. I actually bought the CD when it came out … you know when they had CDs. It’s a good kick-in-the-butt tune.

  3. INteresting sidelight: That song was deemed to be a plagiarism of a Rolling Stones song. I think it was “This Must Be the Last Time” or something like that. The group gladly paid the fee and took it as a compliment. They did not intentionally try to rip off the Stones. It just happens. Another song called Constant Cravings by K.D. Lang was subject to the same type of ruling.

There was another, a hip-hop song, that was just adjudicated, Robin Thicke… Blurred Lines, that’s it. They ripped off Marvin Gaye. That one was blatant though. I wasn’t aware that The Verve were bit on that song though. Thanks for the enlightenment.
