We’ve been riding in some pretty stupid conditions of late. Seriously, stupid. Those days are almost over.
Still, today it’s once more into the britch*…
I believe we’ll be heading out on the mountain bikes today for an hour-ish, hoping to miss the snow. As is always the case when it comes to riding a bike in the cold weather, I won’t like it but it’ll be better and more beneficial than turning the cranks on the trainer and sweating on the floor. It will also be an order of magnitude less boring…. Thankfully, we should be very close to the end of riding in freezing temperatures for at least seven months.
To clarify, I don’t mind riding in the cold as much as I have a tough time in the spring going from cycling at a comfortable 50 degrees back down to the mid 20’s. Once I feel that warmth on my face, I hate going back to balaclavas, neck gaiters and winter gloves.
UPDATE: We didn’t beat the snow but it wasn’t all that bad either… Thankfully we were on the mountain bikes.
*Dear friends and pompous literature critics, we all know the Shakespeare quote is “Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more…” from the play Henry V. However, because of your pompous nature and general lack of knowledge of all things that are awesome beyond snooty, difficult to read plays, you were unaware that the great Peter Sellers once uttered “Once more unto the breach” whilst, and at the same time, referring to his tuned chickens taking their respective places under his arms… Whether he was simply being funny by hacking up the quote or his stage accent in addition to his real accent causing him to mumble the words, it actually sounds like “once more into the britch”. Please refrain from attempting to show me up in the comments section as you’ll be rightly shamed for missing the joke and failing to completely read the post.
