Michigan’s Governor Whitmer just put Michigan on lockdown to stop the spread of the Wuhan, China COVID-19 Coronavirus.
Humorously, she blamed the federal government for not getting her enough hospital masks and surgical gloves… apparently she’s never read the US Constitution and has no clue what the Feds are responsible for and what they’re not (hint, masks and surgical gloves fall in her court before the Fed’s, but who would ever expect a politician to take responsibility for their job?). Hey, though, let’s not cast aspersions like others have, eh?
That said, it’s time to party, baby. My bikes are all ready to go and we’ve got a few days of really nice weather before we get into some possibility of rain.
In Michigan, going outside for exercise is allowed, and cycling is specifically mentioned as an acceptable form of exercise as long as the minimum 6′ is maintained and we’re not riding in groups and I’ll be taking full advantage of it. It’s time to rack up some miles, my friends. If I gotta stay home, I’m going to enjoy it. One thing’s for sure… it’s time to tighten the belt.
We’re not allowed to ride outside because if we have an accident we’ll use already scarce resources. Also, riding with friends isn’t observing social distancing! Yes, it’s the home trainer on the terrace for us.
Bummer! The order we are following specifically lists cycling as acceptable.
Cycling on one’s own was acceptable 10 days ago and then, when they gave it some thought, three days later it wasn’t.
They’ll have to catch me if they change their mind.
Lucky you’re so fast!
😀
Have some great rides. Apparently the body that oversees and insures bike clubs in Ontario will not do so for group rides yet. I don’t know what they will be waiting for, but I will have to head out by myself.
The UK just joined the lockdown club. Leave home only for essential shopping (food and medicine), for medical or care needs, for work (if essential) and once a day for exercise (alone or with family members only). No gatherings of more than 2 people. Initially for 3 weeks.
That’s pretty close to what we are dealing with. I’d go solo if they made it a requirement… or ride with my wife.
Stay safe, my friend.
If only he had the plums to use the words “lock down”. He really REALLY doesn’t like being grim or the bearer of bad news even when it has been looking at us in the face for the last 3 weeks.
Now, you bring up an interesting point, too. Correctly, you wrote “lock down”… however, because everyone in Michigan is stupid so they’re calling it “lockdown” even though that’s a distinct military term… and sadly, after Google searching “Michigan Lock Down”, Google informed me I had misspelled and was showing results for “Michigan Lockdown”…
So that makes me a sheep. Sue me.
I think that there is a bit of confusion here Jim. I thought that I was replying to the Omil and his comment about it. For some reason my reply ended up on the general comments feed instead. By “if only he…” I meant the buffoon who is supposed to be the leader of the government avoiding the term and not being explicit enough for the other buffoons who, because they are not going to work seem to think that they are on holiday and pissing off to the beach or pub or club or restaurant…
I was worried you’d think that, my friend. Not the case at all. I fully understood you. I was playing at a little self-deprecated humor on my own part which played on the depth to which the stupidity can sink. We’re all good, brother.
Ride well Jim and ride safe. My one form of exercise will be getting to and from work. Sooooo looking forward to those quieter roads. Hopefully drivers will keep their distance, even if legally, passing is less than the required 2 metres
Two meters?! Oh, that’s sexy, baby! We only get one. We live out in the sticks though, brother – quiet roads all around us. I will be careful and as safe as possible. My radar is charged and ready to go.
Only 1 metre? Maybe your Covid19 isn’t as virulent as our Covid19 😂😂 Quiet roads on my route too from the sticks but a nasty b@$terd stretch during rush hour towards town at the end
Ah! I did mistake that. I thought you meant the distance at which vehicles are required to pass. I read your comment a little too fast.
Your governor is an idiot! I heard her speech and come on be-atch… FOCUS! Our governor was kinder, but instead of focusing on the real issue, they’re campaigning and resorting to scare tactics. They sure love the blame game and point fingers but would they have done differently based on the information they had to work with at the time? Well, you get my meaning.
Yep. Second oldest profession on earth.
Stay safe and healthy, brother! We’re not on total lockdown yet. Restaurants, pubs and gyms are closed. I can still work and our schools are still open, but our politicians are about a week or two behind the rest of the world. It’ll come I’m sure. Ride outside while you can!
Absolutely, brother. Good luck, man.
