Living the Dream, Baby!

Archives

COVIDcation took a turn for the good today!

Something struck my funny bone as I was cruising home at 23-mph with a fantastic tailwind. The sun was shining, I’d taken the arm warmers off miles earlier… I was having a great time.

It occurred to me, being on unemployment, with a job to go back to as soon as our governor lifts restrictions on construction… Our governor is literally paying me to ride my bike!

I finally found someone dumb crazy awesome enough to pay me to ride my bike!

I’m livin’ the dream, baby! WOOOO!

Now there’s a positive attitude! Ride on.

Glad you’re getting good rides. Trails are not as open as hubby would like. He went on one the other day which goes in and around camp Pendleton and although there were no postings, he was 3 miles in when he is faced with a huge fence. He said it was like the Berlin Wall with no access any further, so he turned around, went somewhere else, but how disappointing. He was really counting on a very long ride.

That sucks… First, I get the whole “social distancing” thing, but closing trails off? I wonder how much of this is, “look, you’re going to be off work so you have to be miserable” rather than “social distancing”, you know what I mean?

      • joliesattic says:

Well, early on before the official shut down, we noticed trail packed with people and no one even attempting social distancing. Same with the beaches. It was like you tell us don’t and by golly we will! It was so out of control they had to do something. I still say let people do what they want and kill themselves. I’m sick of fighting these folks that don’t give a shit about anyone but themselves. We’ve recently had huge crowds with no masks!

      • bgddyjim says:

Well, it wasn’t too long ago the powers that be said masks were useless, no? One could hardly blame them for believing them the first time.

My tongue is firmly planted in my cheek, of course.

      • joliesattic says:

Oh yeah, there was this huge news report in Florida when I was there that said, these masks were useless, but then weeks later, not in Florida but here, they said, they work if everyone wears them. Wearing them keeps your spit/vapors from being dispersed, in which case others won’t be inhaling what you exhale, which makes sense. It’s like a sneeze, which is obvious, but it can be blocked or diffused.

I am jealous! Unfortunately, my job was considered “essential.” I volunteered to be laid off any way so I could ride like a pro for a few weeks/months. No luck. Instead here I am. Reading cycling blogs at my desk. Ha!

    • bgddyjim says:

Jeremy, I completely lucked out. All of the other surrounding States left construction rolling. Our governor… well, she doesn’t quite get how the private sector works, so she paid me to stay home. That said, it sure was nice!
