Well, My Reign as A Paid Cyclist for the State of Michigan is Coming to an End Sooner Than I’d Like… But It Sure Was Fun While It Lasted!
I was called back to work yesterday. I’ll be home, cycling Monday, but Tuesday, it’ll be back at it, though likely from home for the first two days… and I am under no illusion, the first several weeks back are going to be ugly. All of our customers will be trying to protect their job from economic insecurity by piling as many people as possible into the building. Not exactly what we want for social distancing. There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth to have massive crews and
we’re I’m going to have to find a diplomatic way to say that we have to stick with the law whilst, and at the same time, getting jobs done.
I won’t lie, “pro cyclist” was a whole lot more fun!
That said, I will look back fondly on this time for the rest of my life. It was an incredible experience and I’m glad to have had the opportunity to live like a retired guy, if just for a short while.
Day two of my schedule adjustment was excellent. Just as if I’d been at work. Day three, however, hit a snag. I woke up at the proper time, but I couldn’t stay awake. I needed a 30 minute nap to feel right. After two cups of coffee, too. Woof.
Three days and a wake-up and I’ll be working again.
My friend, the tempocyclist, commented yesterday that perhaps I’ll have to be referred to as an “es-pro cyclist” from now on… Tongue firmly planted in my cheek, I responded; retired pro cyclist will do.
Chuckle. I have to admit, that has a nice ring to it.
