Apologies for not having a post lined up for today… BIG things are in the works.

I apologize for not having a post lined up for today. Big things are afoot. I could have shortchanged the next installment in my Noob’s Guide to Cycling post because it was almost set, but I wouldn’t have done it justice in the wrap-up.

Big things are happening.

I was informed yesterday that I’m being promoted. And it’s a doozy. I’ve been busier than a one-legged pirate in an ass-kicking competition since. Things will settle down again after today, over the weekend, but for right now, it’s all hands on deck.

As my sponsor pointed out yesterday, funny how things work out when you’re just concentrating on doing the next right thing at any given moment. I was completely blindsided. You hope your hard work is recognized, that something like this will happen, but this is a lot bigger than I could have hoped for.

I did get out for a night ride yesterday evening. My wife planned a celebration for tonight as we had a Christmas light ride planned for several days. We did 21 miles and I took the mountain bike, averaging 14.4-mph. It was a great ride and the weather was stellar (a balmy 40° or about 4 C).

More tomorrow.

Congrats on the promotion. Yes, I too, noticed that showing up at work every day and focusing on the next right thing and letting the big things take care of themselves is much nicer way to live. Always imagining that I was somehow controlling management’s views of me to get a promotion gave the illusion I was in control… classic alcoholic thinking.

Promotion usually involves a raise and/or a bonus. The longstanding tradition at my house is that if the bonus came in over expectations, the first thing that happened was I got to give myself a present. I have a suggestion if things work that way at your house…

I knew that was coming. LOL!

By the way, you can tell your daughter that your fat bike purchase is “research” for providing her the best means of year-round transport (and fitness) for her at school, so that she doesn’t have to worry about parking and maintenance for a car. If the research project is successful, you’ll get her a fat bike of her very own. But you wouldn’t want to stick her with something that you wouldn’t want to ride yourself, so you just have to try one out, as an expression of your care and concern for her well-being.

        Now that would play!

Wohoo! Congratulations on your promotion! And best of luck in your new role!

  12. Congratulations on your promotion my friend. Happy to see your efforts paying off. It’s been a busy season for many of us, adding to the challenge of keeping up our blogs. I’m looking forward to your upcoming posts.

    • bgddyjim says:

Thank you. And I’m looking forward to yours. It’s like manna from Heaven.

      • My pleasure. Wow-manna from Heaven? That’s high praise, brother. “to become conformed to the image of His Son” This is a major truth of this passage. This is the goal of Christianity (cf. Rom. 28:30; 2 Cor. 3:18; Gal. 4:19; Eph. 1:4; 2:10; 4:13; 1 Thess. 3:13; 4:3; 2 Thess. 2:13; Titus 2:14; 1 Pet. 1:15). Holiness is God’s will for every believer. God’s election is to Christlikeness (cf. Eph. 1:4), not a special standing. The image of God which was given to humanity in creation (cf. Gen. 1:26; 5:1,3; 9:6) is to be restored (cf. Col. 3:10). See note at Rom. 8:21.

      • Sorry for all the references in my reply. I am doing a little bible study as I get caught up on reading some blogs today. Hope you have a great weekend, brother. Thanks for the encouraging words as always.

      • bgddyjim says:

It’s all good, man. I need it.

  13. Congratulations! Nice ending to 2020!

Well done, mate! Also love the “busier than a one-legged pirate in an ass-kicking competition”. Made me chuckle – and also wonder how you get into ass-kicking as a sport. Is there a governing body, like the NBA, NFL, FIFA or Union Cycliste Internationale. Would definitely pay a subscription to watch that sport live!!!
