I’m Back! However, Sadly, with an Uninvited Guest

July 2022

I’m back to writing today, after what very well could be my longest break from writing since I started – I took a full ten days off.

Sadly, we brought an uninvited guest back with us in the form of Covid. Technically, I don’t know I have it, but I’ve been playing kissy-face with my wife the entire time and she showed a positive test result eleven seconds after the drops hit the “S” reservoir on the test.

I’ve got the tiniest of headaches and a little bit of a scratchy throat. Other than that, if my wife hadn’t taken a test that showed positive, I’d likely put this to allergies or something less sinister (and this is definitely my second time around with Covid after having it in the early weeks of the pandemic, just before everything was shut down, possibly third just this past February). My wife, however, has it worse than I. She’s vaccinated and boosted, like me, but she’s got the full slate of symptoms (sore throat, sinus issues, headache, achy body, tired, etc., etc.), though she seems to have turned the corner enough that she’ll wait out the symptoms.

So, I’ll be write back at it in the morning with a new batch of cycling posts interspersed with some recovery topics I picked up on from my time away…

  1. niall says:

The variation in symptoms is amazing. Take care and get well soon 👍

  2. Linda W says:

Sorry you and your wife are sick. Get well soon!

  3. jeffw5382 says:

Seems the only people contracting it are vaccinated now
I don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I can’t seem to get it.

    • bgddyjim says:

Well, when more than 85% of the population is vaccinated, it’ll tend to look that way. I thought the same thing till my wife started coughing. I can say this, being vaccinated, this isn’t horrible.

  4. Uncoffined says:

Don’t over think it, you are both fit and healthy and you will be fine.
P.S. This message was brought to you by a 55yr old who never got the ‘jab’ or a flu vaccination for that matter, had covid for 2 days and then carried on with life in general.

  5. unironedman says:

    Speedy recovery to you both.

  6. Dave Talsma says:

Everyone that I know who has had it, including my wife has been super mild, much like a cold. I think each variation is becoming more like a common cold. Have a nice rest time.

  7. elisariva says:

That sucks. Hope you both are feeling better and stronger soon!

    • bgddyjim says:

Yerp. Sucks is about right! My wife is feeling much better. I seem to be a couple of days behind her. I still have a low fever (99.5) but I’m not as rundown as I was yesterday when I woke up.

      • elisariva says:

Rest up. I know being as active as you are and coming off a vacation where you couldn’t ride, you want to get out there. Give your body a week to rest and recover. Your bike’s engine may need a little week of r and r “tune up”.

      • bgddyjim says:

A week?! Erm… I was thinking tinkering with my Trek’s headset today would be sufficient as a rest day! I’ll take it day by day. I’ve had a few other friends who rode right through it.

      • elisariva says:

Definitely not when you have a fever. Your body is fighting you for where it wants to direct its energy.

      • bgddyjim says:

That’s fair. Maybe after the symptoms subside…
